What is Psycho-Analysis? Psycho-Analyis is a system of psychology derives from the discoveries of Sigmund Freud. It was originated as a method for treating neurotic disorders and has since served as a general theory of psychology. psychoanalysis has led to a deeper understanding of social development, religion, art and child development through ways of understanding people. It has also advanced the ideas and understandings of psychomatic illnesses. Indeed, psychoanalysis has greatly helped the world in its understanding of many things through treatment of individual patients. Psycho-Analysis, Human Nature From the point of view of conflict, psychoanalysis can be thought of as human nature. The human mind reflects the Man's tendencies or opposing forces. There are lots of interactions that go on in the mind unconsciously -- or subconsciously -- and these conflicts may affect the individual considerably, and destroy his self-esteem or relationships with the family or friends. These powerful intrapsychic conflicts which can cause much destruction to one's life, are more often than not, unnoticed, unknown and unclear. Pleasure and Pain Freud theorized that the unconscious conflicts going on in the mind were actually symptoms of repressed ideas. These ideas are usually socially unacceptable (usually sexual ideas) and therefore, the individual represses them. But these ideas still retain their power in the individual and are, at a later stage, expressed without the individual's knowledge. This usually leads on to hysterical symptoms, which may eventually cause a nervous breakdown. However, through therapy and psychoanalysis, these symptoms can be relieved. |
